Case study / Automation

Less repetition. More repeatability.

Infrastructure as code and connected workflows for provisioning, configuration, and recurring operational tasks.

Professional work · anonymised~70% of provisioning automated
01

The problem

Repeated provisioning and operational tasks increased manual effort across a growing hybrid-cloud estate.

02

My responsibility

I build infrastructure automation and operational integrations, including deployment workflows, reporting, and documentation.

03

The decisions

Use versioned infrastructure definitions and repeatable configuration. Apply AI assistance to implementation and investigation while retaining ownership of requirements and integration.

04

The solution

Terraform and Ansible automate provisioning and configuration. Azure DevOps supports delivery, while n8n connects recurring workflows with PagerDuty, Jira, and Teams.

05

The outcome

Approximately 70% of provisioning automated, with recurring availability and performance reporting integrated into operational workflows.

06

The takeaway

Automation needs a clear owner, maintainable inputs, and documentation that lets other engineers operate it.

Observability

Grafana stack. From signals to operational decisions.

An observability platform I designed, built, and operate: metrics, central logging, custom collectors, and operational workflows managed as code.

40+ dashboards as code · millions of log lines a day

Cloud migration

From vCenter to the cloud, with purpose.

A production data centre migration to Azure and IONOS, with attention to continuity, sizing, and ongoing cost.

~20% lower IONOS costs through optimisation
